Portrait corner of mathematicians set in CUET

A Portrait Corner has been set up in the Mathematics Department of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) with the introduction of various world-renowned mathematicians. The Portrait Corner displays at least 20 mathematicians and scientists from home and abroad including world renowned mathematician, astronomer and cosmologist Professor Dr. Jamal Nazrul Islam, Albert Einstein, Sir Isaac Newton, Stephen Hawking, Leonard Euler, Pythagoras, Srinivasa Ramanujan and the recent Field Medalist Terrence Tao. The corner was inaugurated on Sunday (October 24) at 11:30 am in the simulation lab of the Mathematics Department by the Vice Chancellor of CUET, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Rafiqul Alam. The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology Professor Dr. Sunil Dhar attended the program as special guest while Head of the Department of Mathematics Dr. Ujjwal Kumar Deb presided over the meet. The Ekushey Medal winning poet and journalist Rashed Rouf spoke on the occasion. The Alumni Association of the Department of Mathematics, University of Chittagong provided overall assistance in setting up the corner. The Vice-Chancellor said, 'The world is now in our hands. This has been made possible by the unimaginable success of science. And behind that, there is the application of various mathematical models and formulas. That is why at CUET we are giving equal importance to engineering education as well as research on basic sciences. I thank the Department of Mathematics for taking the initiative to take the next generation of world-renowned mathematicians and scientists to heart. Prominent social worker Shri Parimal Dhar, General Secretary of CU Mathematics Department Alumni Association A.S.M. Rezaul Karim Swapan, Associate Professor Hasanul Islam of Chittagong College, Mazharul Islam, Founder President of Bayazid Model School, Shipon Chandra Dev Nath, Head of Mathematics Department, Chittagong Cantonment Public College were present in the inaugural program.
